Çamlıhemşin Waterfalls
Çamlıhemşin Waterfalls: The Wildest and Most Elegant Dance of Water
Rize's Çamlıhemşin district is a natural wonder not only with its misty mountains and highlands but also with its fierce waters flowing through the valleys. The waters fed by the snowy peaks of the Kaçkar Mountains lose hundreds of meters of altitude and meet the Fırtına Creek, creating unique landscapes. In this geography, the sound of water never ceases; sometimes it gives peace like a lullaby, and sometimes it roars as if to prove its power.
There are three major waterfalls in Çamlıhemşin that you must see on your trip, each with a different character: Palovit, Bulut (Tar Creek), and Gelin Tülü. In this article, we will get to know these three water giants of the region closely.
Palovit Waterfall: The Power and Splendor of Nature
Located within the boundaries of Kaçkar Mountains National Park, Palovit Waterfall is the waterfall with the highest flow rate in the region. Reached by a forest road after passing Zilkale, this natural wonder creates a massive impact despite falling from a height of 15 meters.
The most important feature that distinguishes Palovit from others is the intensity of its water. The air current and water droplets created at the point where the waterfall spills create a natural shower effect for visitors approaching it. It offers a unique experience, especially for those who want to cool off in the summer months. The viewing terrace right next to the waterfall is the safest spot to photograph this wild beauty. However, you may need to protect your camera or phone against getting wet. Surrounded by lush spruce forests, Palovit is the most photogenic and "loudest" stop in the valley.

Bulut Waterfall (Tar Creek): Elegance Falling from the Highest
Contrary to the wild power of Palovit, Bulut Waterfall (locally known as Tar Deresi Waterfall) is known for its elegance and height. Gliding in four stages from a height of approximately 250 meters, this waterfall is considered one of the waterfalls with the highest drop in Turkey.
Reaching Bulut Waterfall is not as effortless as Palovit, but it is worth every step taken. The path starting from the hot spring location on the Çamlıhemşin - Ayder road requires a pleasant hike of approximately 2 kilometers with a slight slope. This walk is a meditation in itself for nature lovers. During the walk under the shade of linden, chestnut, and hornbeam trees, accompanied by bird sounds, you pass through wooden bridges and move towards the heart of nature. The view that welcomes you at the end of the road is a mesmerizing water source flowing thinly over the rocks, giving the feeling that it is descending from the clouds. It is the right route for those who want to stay alone with nature, away from the crowd.

Gelin Tülü Waterfall: The Ornament of Ayder
Located in Ayder Highland, the tourism center of Çamlıhemşin, Gelin Tülü (Bridal Veil) Waterfall is the easiest to access and the most photographed waterfall. It is formed by the waters coming from the Kaçkar peaks (mixing into the Kavron stream) gliding over the rocks for hundreds of meters right on the slope of the highland.
It is no coincidence that the waterfall is named "Gelin Tülü" (Bridal Veil). The water forming white foams while flowing from the rocks and its long, thin, scattered structure resembles a bride's veil. You do not need to take an extra walk to see this waterfall; you can watch this unique view standing right in front of you while sitting on the grass of Ayder and sipping your tea. Especially in the spring months, the water volume increases with the melting of snow, and the view becomes even more distinct. The green texture of Ayder Highland and the whiteness of the waterfall create a contrast that rivals postcards.
